The UMass Physics Department offers two wireless access points. If you scan for wireless services you will see service available in part of the LGRT and service listed in Hasbrouck fourth floor. All services require registration to connect and are password protected.

 

In the LGRT 9, 10 and 11 floors you will see the service listed as PHYSICS-1036

In Hasbrouck floor 4 you will see the service listed as HASB-409

 

General usage:
To connect, your wireless MAC address must be added to the UMass Physics DHCP database. To get registered and be added to the Database please send the following six pieces of information listed below to babcock@physics.umass.edu

 

Suggested hostname:

ethernet: (ethernet card hardware address)<--see "How to find your computer's MAC or Hardware Address"

hardware: (cpu type)

os: (operating system)

location: (room #, building)

contact: (person to contact)

 

Email will be sent to confirm registration and the password will be included also.

 

Visitor information:
If a visitor needs temporary wireless or hardwire access via the UMass Physics network, this person can access the network via one of two ways.


1:  For longer visits, more than an hour or two, get the hardware address of the visitors
   wireless card, send to babcock@physics.umass.edu for addition. It is best if this can be
   done before the person arrives.

2:  For a quick connection, by a visitor, there are two IP addresses that can be used....

128.119.50.14 for LGRT 
128.119.56.14  for Hasbrouck.

Netmask (same for both buildings) 255.255.255.0
Gateway for Hasbrouck: 128.119.56.254
Gateway for LGRT:      128.119.50.254
Nameserver for Hasbrouck: 128.119.56.117
Nameserver for LGRT:  128.119.50.121

 

 

Please note that these IP addresses are monitored for usage and unauthorized

use will be noticed and terminated.
