The Anion: New work on an old subject

Barry Holstein, UMass, Physics

The anion is a bound state of a point charge and an electric dipole. It was first studied by Fermi and Teller and has been the subject many papers since that time. I will look at some of these papers and discuss the connection with quantum mechanical anomalies and even with experiment.
