Quantum Tunneling in Flux Compactifications

Jose Juan Blanco-Pillado, Tufts University

We identify instantons representing vacuum decay in a 6-dimensional toy model for string theory flux compactifications. This model exhibits vacum with different number of compact dimensions depending on the type of fluxes turned on in a particular compactification. We evaluate the instanton action for tunneling between different flux vacua of the same of compact dimensions, as well as for the compactification/decompactification decay channels.
